Bidding for constructing a five-star hotel in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), which was scheduled for Monday, has been deferred indefinitely by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) as no party was interested in the deal, Business Recorder reliably learnt on Monday.

Through bidding, the CDA was interested to construct an international standard hotel in federal capital. However, the authority has postponed the bidding after it had failed to attract any bidder.

When contacted, CDA Member Planning Brigadier Nusrat, Deputy Director General Planning M. K. Pasha and Director Staff Dr Faisal Awan were not available for comments.

Sources said that CDA was planning to re-launch the bidding process in this regard and would invite the interested national/multinational firms through launching an advertisement campaign in the national dailies. The process is likely to be completed by the end of this month, sources said.

CDA had invited applications for construction of a new five-star hotel near the Convention Centre on the directives of Interior Minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat. Originally, the plan included the construction of at least five new international level hotels in different locations of Islamabad to provide world class accommodation for state guests and other dignitaries visiting Pakistan.

The directives to construct the hotel were issued by former prime minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali to provide a better place for holding important national and international events.

Earlier, about nine firms of international repute had shown interest in the project. However at the last moment, nobody came forward to take part in the open bidding, sources added.

The government has stepped up its efforts to construct the new hotels after it had faced hardships in providing appropriate accommodation facility to the official delegates, journalists at the Saarc summit held here early this year.

The CDA is keen to invite bids for construction of five star hotels at the proposed sites including Margalla Hills, Pir Sohawa and site exactly opposite to the Marriott Hotel, sources disclosed.
